Bowel management
About this course
This bowel management training aims to raise awareness and knowledge in relation to bowel management and incontinence.
Ideally, this course is for care staff responsible for the day to day care of individuals who require assistance with bowel management.
Effective bowel management is especially important for service users with spinal injury and those at risk of autonomic dysreflexia.
Above all, this course has a base level of theory with practical modules which can be added on as required.
Course summary
- Gain an understanding of bowel management and relevant anatomy and physiology
- Gain an understanding of clinical governance surrounding bowel management
- Attain an understanding of bowel function and dysfunction:
- Gain an understanding of what affects bowel function
- Acquire an understanding of medication and treatment including the impact of nutrition and hydration
- Gain an understanding of rehabilitation techniques
- Demonstration and practical session
